Skill: 7------------------------------------------------------------------------------THE DETAILSSledge has a solidly-built frame. She is less slim than most femmes, and that is because her frame type was made for hard labor. She is quite tall, standing at nearly thirty feet, and broad of shoulder as well as hip. Her form is still definitely that of a femme, just a particularly powerful and robust-looking one. She is particularly powerful in the upper body, with thick arms that are clearly made for swinging.
Her coloration is a mixture of dark colors, most of them black, grey, and green. She does not bother to polish herself, so, while clean, she is not particularly shiny.
Sledges face is not particularly expressive. She possesses a yellow optic strip, which glares above a permanent battle-mask that rather resembles a half-gas mask. She has no mouth, and takes energon through a port in the side of her neck. Her helmet is comprised of compact stubby angled, with two ear-finials that flare over her audials, rather like ears.
Her voice has a somewhat hoarse quality, but it is still definitely that of a female.
Her vehicle mode is that of a Jeep Gladiator.------------------------------------------------------------------------------YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHO YOU'RE DEALING WITH
Likes:
- Humans. In the few years she’s been on Earth, exploring and investigating, she has been rather charmed by humans’ sheer determination, despite their frailty and their small size.
- Peace and quiet, on occasion. Sledge needs her alone time to rest and recoup, and when she can find the rare, isolated pocket of wilderness, she enjoys the silence that resides there.
- Reasonable people. She appreciates common sense more so than fancy words and raw strength.
- Hard work. She was built to be a laborer, and she still finds some kinesthetic satisfaction from exerting herself. It makes relaxing at the end of the day all the sweeter.
- Music, particularly with vocals. She doesn’t have a voice for singing, but she loves to listen to others sing, be they Cybertronian, human, or anything in between.
- She also has a weakness for James Bond films, and can be seen lurking at more than one drive-in whenever a James Bond film festival is about to occur.
Dislikes:
- Decepticons. Once, she sympathized with them, but now she despises the lot of them as hypocrites. She is more inclined to be sympathetic with drones and lower-ranking officers.
- To some extent, the Autobots. They have certainly made a name for themselves in recent years as a peaceable lot, but she distrusts them, uncertain as to whether or not they still represent the decadent upper class of pre-war Cybertron.
- Manipulative people. She is not stupid, and she can spot trickery when she sees it, but it still annoys her.
- She doesn’t dislike children and younglings in general, but they do make her a touch nervous. She was never meant to be a gentle creature, and she doesn’t want to hurt them.
- Uppity fliers who think they’re better than grounders. Flaunting so-called “aerial superiority” is the quickest way to get on Sledge’s nerves.
- MECH. So far she’s managed to stay under their radar, but she doesn’t intend to mess around if they cross paths with her.
- Authority in general. Sledge has chafed too long as a nameless worker, and values her newfound independence and freedom.
Personality: Sledge is a very level-headed femme. She can always be counted on to be the voice of reason in any given situation, and prefers to let calm rationality determine her actions rather than spasms of emotion. Most of this comes from her past as a miner, where keeping a cool head could mean the difference between life and death in disastrous situations. She is more inclined to be friendly than to be aggressive, but she can work herself into an impressive rage if provoked enough. It takes a lot to get her into pickaxe-swinging mode, however.
She is not particularly well-educated, picking up most of her wisdom through life experience. Since she never joined a faction, she never benefited from either the Autobots’ records or the Decepticons’ propaganda, so there are many Cybertronian subjects about which she is still ignorant. This sometimes makes her interaction with other Cybertronians difficult, and often leads people to assume that she is stupid. This is not the case! She is slightly above average as far as raw intelligence goes, and can be very clever when she needs to be.
She has never thought much of what society would deem her “betters,” and doesn’t really show extra respect for those with rank. She is generally polite, though, so this isn’t to say she is unnecessarily rude to officers. She is more inclined to sympathize with those of lower rank: the grunts, the drones, and the underdogs, because that is what she has been most of her life.
Her mannerisms are rustic. She is rather blunt and oftentimes uses turns of phrase deemed to be quaint and old-fashioned. Basically, to the average cultured Cybertronian, she sounds like the equivalent of a country bumpkin. This is another aspect that sometimes leads people to assume she’s unintelligent. It’s a bit of a source of annoyance for her, but rather than try to polish her mannerisms, she stubbornly has forcibly retained them, defying anyone to tell her to act less like a common miner.
In the face of danger, Sledge can usually keep a cool head. She is quite brave, and her nerves of steel have seen her through more than one situation that seemed hopeless. She handles most of her emotions rather well, reigning them carefully in without making herself a lifeless shell of a creature, but she does have a bit of trouble dealing with circumstances that sadden her. She can push herself on and deal with upsetting events, but they often come back to haunt her. When she fails, she is plagued with regret, and will often dwell on those failures.
She is too stolid to be particularly playful, but she can be persuaded, every now and then, to have a little fun. When she is feeling humorous, her wit is often delivered with muted amusement and a low chuckle. Because her face is so rigid, she does not express emotion well, and she doesn’t really do much as far as body language goes, so it can sometimes be difficult to figure out what she’s thinking or how she’s feeling.
Strengths: Personality-wise--Sledge is brave and unwavering. She can be the rock of strength for those that need someone to lean on, and despite her very humble beginnings, she possesses some embryonic leadership qualities. She usually spends most of her time alone, but when working with others, she usually puts their safety before hers…
Physically-- …and this works well because Sledge can take a licking and keep on ticking. She is very large, very strong, and very tough. If you manage to provoke her into a scuffle, you won’t forget her in a hurry, because she hits hard and won’t always show mercy.
Weaknesses: Personality-wise--She is rather disillusioned as far as authority goes, and will reject safety with a group in favor of striking out on her own. She values her newfound freedom more than camaraderie. She is very blunt and direct, and inclined to be honest, but sometimes she can be rude without meaning to. She’s not very good at complex social interactions. She isn’t stupid--she’s just not used to them.
Physically--She doesn’t do so well with ranged combat. Fliers have a particular advantage against her because they can do damage from a great range. Sledge does not currently carry any firearms, so she relies on getting close to her foes to do damage. She is also not particularly fast, and a quick, agile opponent will fare well against her heavy, slow blows.------------------------------------------------------------------------------THE SKELETONS IN YOUR CLOSET
Family: None; Sledge emerged from the Well.
History: Like many of the laboring classes, Sledge was designated as a nameless worker, built to live and die in the mining pits. She was stationed far from the major cities, and was not involved in Megatronus’s uprising in Kaon. She did hear about the famous gladiator, and the ideals he was preaching, and they resonated strongly with her. The way Cybertronians were living their lives was not right. He understood it. Had Sledge been stationed in Kaon, she might have been one of his followers, but her mining station was so remote that the early happenings of the war went on without her.
When the war began, at first, she was a Decepticon sympathizer. She didn’t believe that the coddled masses of Iacon understood how truly horrible the conditions were for the laboring class. As the war dragged on, however, and Megatron became corrupted by his newfound power, it became apparent to her that she was trading one tyranny for another. When the war finally reached her mine, it was in full, savage swing, and Sledge had to make a decision about what she was going to do about it.
It was a very frustrating time in her life to see something she had once believed in become the very thing she had wanted to fight. She was still unconvinced that the Autobots were the faction for her, though--they certainly conducted themselves with honor on the battlefield, but she felt that a victory for them would only restore Cybertron to its old ways.
So, Sledge fought for herself. She struck out on her own, doing what she could to survive, and eventually left Cybertron to explore the galaxy at large. Every now and then she would come across another Cybertronian--a deserter, a pirate, or just a wandering trader--but their paths would only ever cross. She became used to being alone. It never bothered her.
Eventually she found her way to Earth, and it wasn’t long before she discovered that Cybertronians were present there, as well. By the time she figured out that Optimus Prime and Megatron had brought the war to this world, she had already quite settled in and gotten attached to the indigenous population. She has stubbornly refused to move and instead done what she can to keep a low profile, but is prepared to defend herself should she get caught up in the war once more.------------------------------------------------------------------------------IS THAT ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY?
Weaponry: Sledge carries with her an old mining pickaxe, which she has fortified for combat over the years. It has been her trusty weapon throughout most of the war. It’s very large, and very heavy, with a spike at one end and a dull, hefty hammer at the other. It can be used for bludgeoning, stabbing, or as defense (using the pole to blocka sword-strike or a punch). Sledge doesn’t really follow any conventional fighting style, instead having sort of invented one with her pickaxe during the course of the war. She has killed with her pickaxe before, and though she is not bloodthirsty, she will do so again if she has to.
The pickaxe is collapsible and can slot into her back; it is a plain weapon, with only a few glowing accents around the handle, which were designed to make it easier to locate in a dark mine.
Her strength and endurance are her greatest assets. She was built to work hard, and this serves her well in battle.
Extra: Sledge has been obliged to adopt a holoform in order to get by on Earth, but her holoform changes seemingly at random. She uses chooses females of varying age, ethnicity, and size, but has been known to use a male every now and again.------------------------------------------------------------------------------WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT MESledge had been lost for three days.
It was a nice feeling.
It was easy to forget how large this planet truly was, surrounded by so many small things--small people, small vehicles, small buildings--and the novel sensation of finding herself surrounded by so much unfamiliarity was quite pleasing. She’d been exploring the broader deserts of Arizona, and now did not quite know where she was.
It wouldn’t have been difficult for her to use GPS to determine her location, but she didn’t really want to. It was wild out here, and beautiful, and she could last out here alone for weeks. Maybe, when it was dark, she would try and navigate her way back using the stars. It had been a long time since she’d done that.
Her mind made up, the army-green vehicle veered towards some distant cliffs, which looked promising enough for a closer look, if not an investigation.
