Okay, I'm not leaving RIGHT NOW, but I did think some notice in advance would be nice for everyone.
I filled out a DAR to leave for boot camp next month. They didn't tell me what day so I'm unsure of the chances that I'll be shipping out soon. Nothing is set in stone just yet, I was told that it's a possibility but not to get too excited. They were vague, but I still knew what they meant. I had done a bit of research and their words confirmed it. For whatever reason, they need more medics right now. They're sending female Corpsman out onto the field. Why the sudden change of 'being overrun by Corpsman', I don't know.
If I don't leave next month, I'll be leaving in May 21, 2013 unless something else comes up.
In my time of Basic Training, I'll be gone eight weeks. So, you guys won't be seeing me for at least two months. As for the rest, I honestly have no idea. I know that I want to do my absolute best in my A-School and extra schooling to try and become a "Field Medic". I might be able to post just fine as long as I have my laptop and some internet. If I'm swamped with school, don't count on it. They said if I get on an Aircraft Carrier it's like a floating city. There will be internet until certain hours of the day come. At that point, they'll close it down for everyone but those taking online classes in order to speed up their connection.
If I get shipped out with Marines in the long run, I'll see you when I come home. That's not going to be for awhile though.
My contract last for eight years, for active duty, the other four in case some horrible shit goes down, you know how it is. I'm actually VERY lucky. Every other Hospital Corpsman I saw had to be in for five years. They let me keep the years from my last contract. My name's on it, signature and all. They can't say, "whoops, we have to change this."
